The Library Technology Engineer is assigned to work in Walsh Library and acts as the primary liaison between the University Library and the Department of Information Technology. Taking daily direction from both the University Libraries Dean’s office and PC Support Services, this position works with external vendors to enable technological solutions for the University Libraries; coordinates the implementation of and participates in the selection of technology throughout the library; provides oral instruction, written documentation and training to library administrators, faculty and staff; works with PC Support to inventory hardware assigned to the University Library, enters and updates request and incident tickets in the University’s ITSM platform, following-up with other areas in the DoIT until resolution; conducts research for hardware and software upgrades and purchases in order to recommend to library leadership. This position will consult with and advise the University Libraries on the use of Seton Hall University supported computational and data management solutions to support research and grant projects, provide recommendations and liaise with DoIT to meet efficiency, sharing, and other research requirements. This position requires the ability to work independently, the ability to plan and organize complex tasks and projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Triages and prioritizes the repair of all personal computing (PC) hardware in the University Libraries, including desktop computers, loaner laptops and printers in the Information Commons for PCSS Coordinates computer and printer upgrade projects for the University Library and the DoIT. Tracks all incidents, requests, and projects in the DoIT ITSM platform.

Troubleshoots software issues used in the University Library’s various workflows both internally and patron facing applications. Assists with the research and evaluation of hardware and software appropriate for the University Library. Recommends, and implements technology projects, including leading upgrades and installations of new technologies.

Work with external vendors, faculty, and administration throughout the University as well as content owners/depositors to configure and monitor workflows for ingesting digital content to preserve and display on public web interfaces. Work with stakeholders throughout the library including Faculty and senior administrators to document digital preservation policies and processes. Understand, configure, and enforce security protocols within digital preservation systems and services.

Evaluate current technologies and their impact on workflow across the University Library. Conduct research for hardware and software upgrades and provide recommendations for technology throughout the University Library. Consult with and advise the Libraries on Seton Hall University supported computational and data management needs in research data and grant projects, provide recommendations and liaise with DoIT to meet efficiency, sharing, and other research requirements.

Provide training (oral and written instruction) and coordination on internal & campus IT policies as well as training on hardware & software use for Library administrators, faculty, and staff.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a related IT or Library field, 5 years experience in providing IT support.
