invites applications for an

Online Learning Librarian/Assistant Professor

. Reporting to the Head of the Information and Research Services Division, the Online Learning Librarian will provide research assistance services to faculty, students, and staff within the physical library and online; partner with faculty to incorporate curriculum-based research and information literacy activities into courses; design library instruction sessions for students and faculty; and develop new models and programs to support research and the educational mission of the University. The Online Learning Librarian will also participate in the review and potential revision of the library’s instruction program to align library goals with campus priorities and changes in the higher education library environment. Active engagement in the library and information science profession as a whole is expected and supported.

Primary Functions of the Position

Guide colleagues in the design and creation of online learning objects.

Identify and develop effective working relationships across the campus with individuals and groups that support online learning activities.

Participate in development and maintenance of interactive tutorials and course modules and multimedia projects for the library.

Consult and collaborate with UMOnline, instructional designers, and other individuals and groups on campus engaged in online teaching and learning.

Explore strategies for integrating effective and sustainable online instruction practices into library services.

Develop and maintain online learning objects and research guides.

Integrate learning objects throughout the library web site to provide asynchronous online learning opportunities.

Provide reference, research and information services for the University and larger community at the physical reference desk, in research consultations, and through various information and communication technologies. May include some evening and weekend hours.

Collaborate with library colleagues in other units, including Archives and Special Collections, Bibliographic Management Services, Digital Initiatives, and Technology and Systems Services, to develop and support activities relating to library instruction, information literacy integration, and online learning objects.

Engage in research and service in accordance with the unit standards for the Mansfield Library and the University Faculty Association-University of Montana Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Engage in planning, promotion, and delivery of library resources, services, and activities, together with other librarians and library administration.

May include some collection development duties.

Required Qualifications

ALA-accredited MLS in library or information science by time of appointment.

Experience providing instruction and research support in an academic library environment.

Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with academic departments and other units across library and campus communities.

Demonstrated skills in use of current technologies as they relate to library instruction and services.

Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and fair use as they relate to online learning objects.

Demonstrated ability to successfully market and promote library services and activities in an online environment.

Conversant with emerging issues related to information literacy standards for higher education, pedagogy, instructional design, and learning technologies.

Knowledge of current trends in public services in academic libraries.

Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and management skills.

Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, organization, and time management skills.

Demonstrated ability to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment.

Demonstrated commitment to user-focused services.

Ability to respond effectively to changing needs and institutional priorities.

Ability to meet standards for achieving tenure and promotion as a library faculty member.

Ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing curriculum or programs related to academic library instruction.

Experience with instructional assessment.

Experience in developing and building collections for an academic library.

Understanding of accessibility standards as they relate to service to individuals with disabilities.

Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and creating Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as Section 508

compliant content.

Position Details

Minimum Salary:

Starting at $48,000 - $50,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Desired Start Date:

Summer 2021 (negotiable)
